Biography:

Audrey Hughes, 82, of Long Branch, died peacefully with family by her side from complications of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also know as Lou Gehrig’s Disease on Monday, September 24, 2012 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.She was born in Hanover Twp, PA and has lived with her husband in the shore area since 1953.

  She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Wilkes Barre General Hospital,Wilkes Barre, PA and later completed continuing education and professional development classes at Fitkin Hospital (Jersey Shore University Medical Center), Neptune.

 Audrey began her nursing career working on the Polio Ward at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She retired from Point Pleasant Beach Hospital, Point Pleasant after working in both their Medical-Surgical Dept. and Intensive Care Unit.

  She attended and, for a period of time, along with her husband was a Youth Leader at Oakhurst United Methodist Church, Oakhurst, was Past President and member of The Woman’s Club of Long Branch as well as being on the Honor Roll of the NJ State Federation of Woman’s Club. She was also known for being an avid bridge player.

 Audrey is predeceased by a brother William Harrison.  She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years Milton G. Hughes; sons, Kurt Hughes and Corinne Johansson of Richmond VT and Keith Hughes and his wife Kelly of Garden Valley, ID; grandchildren, Austin ,River and  Tessa and a sister in law, Irene Harrison.

 In lieu of flowers donations in Audrey’s memory to: Joan Dancy and PAL Foundation, Riverview Medical Center, Riverview Plaza, PO Box 8157, Red Bank, NJ 07701 or Dr. John Blair Scholarship  Fund, Oakhurst Methodist Church, 103 Monmouth Rd, Oakhurst, NJ  07755 would be greatly appreciated.

 A Memorial Service will be held 3pm on Saturday, September 29th at Oakhurst Methodist Church, 103 Monmouth Rd., Oakhurst.  Hoffman Funeral Home, Long Branch is entrusted with arrangements.
